Believe it or not Google Maps ranked no.1 in our internal poll of Blackberry users, even ahead of BlackBerry messenger. Looks like BlackBerry boys find themselves a little lost every now and then. Good things then that this app is fully loaded with feature such as turn by turn directions, local listings and cell tower based location triangulation. With Latitude integrated you can get to know where your friends are.
2. Blackberry Messenger
Though coming in at number two, BBM as it’s generally called, is one of the most important apps available on the Blackberry platform. In fact many people even switch over to this platform to acquire that coveted BB Pin (personal identification number) which is your BlackBerry username of sorts on BBM. This little app is the way Blackberry boys (and girls) stay in touch, for free!
3. Viigo
Simply calling it an RSS reader just doesn’t cut it because it’s so much more than that. It grabs weather updates, sports scores, all flavours of news, In addition to supporting integration with Google reader. Through its browseable categories and modules, you can subscribe to feeds on entertainment, shopping, and lots more. This app gets envious glares from other platforms.
4. Dictionary and Thesaurus
A free app for all you English Nazis out there. This app boasts some robust features: more than 500,000 words, definitions, synonyms, phonetic and audio pronunciations, spelling suggestions and much more. The word of the day feed, is a nice improve your vocabulary and get some fun gyaan on usage, history and trivia surrounding a particular word.
5. Facebook for BlackBerry
Well even starched suits need to limber up a little at times right? This app is where all the shiny shoes unwind by connecting with friends, posting status updates, browsing photos, and generally staying in the loop. Even with the handicap of a small screen (compared to full touch phones) on some models this app manages to do quite well. It lets you do most of the web version’s functionality be it poking, liking, reading Facebook messages, etc. Ability to integrate with phone contacts is a much liked bonus.
6. BB Notepad
BB Notepad is a simple text editor for Blackberry. It allows you to quickly jot down stuff. You can write full length documents or short and sweet notes. BB Notepad is far better than the default note-taking app. You can save the notes as text files and even share via Bluetooth.
7. LinkedIn
Business networking is obviously very important to the BlackBerry boys. This app lets you browse profiles and you can look up important information about people you are going to meet. A nice app to keep you connected to the relevant community and on the cutting edge.
8. Google Mobile Search
Apart from being able to scour the web, this app brings Google’s powerful search feature to your phone. It will hunt through functions such as addresses book and email in-box, to quickly retrieve what you’re looking for. Features such as auto complete just add to the overall experience.
9. Imaging Theme 2.0
The first and only UI enhancement tool in this list, it proves that BlackBerry users are not immune to few frills. It’s basically a theme that seems to be pretty popular amongst the BlackBerry crowd. What’s the harm in adding a bit of visual glory to your phone?
10. Ubertwitter
Regarded by many as the best free twitter application on the BlackBerry platform, Ubertwitter has many functions you’d expect. Photos integration, tweet shrinking, URL shortening and twitter lists are some of them. Most os all the interface is very inviting and makes the whole experience breeze.
