Getting Directions:
Google Maps does not give just directions, it actually allows you to choose your mode of travelling and then picks a route depending on whether you are in a vehicle or on foot. How brilliant does that sound! And in India, if you wish to use the Delhi Metro Rail, Kolkata Metro, Chennai MRTS or Bangalore Metropolitan Transport services, you can even choose the Public Transit option to get directions in surrounding areas to travel using the Metro too. Just go to Public Transit and put in your Start and End point, and when you get directions for it, you'll see that it gives you details like the frequency of trains on that route, where to change lines or tracks, expected time of travel, contact info for agencies and other useful information. The blue dot is where you are at present, the place-marker with the green symbol is your starting point and the one with a black and white checked symbol is your destination.
Search:
Google Maps also serves well as an exploration tool. Use the Search option to type in the Search options to type in the name of the place you want to look up, say a restaurant, multiplex, museum etc or simply press the Call button on your phone to search by voice and apart from giving you its address, it also provides you with relevant details like ratings and reviews on the place, listing info, services available, timings of shows and more rich details. You'll have handy options to directly call them up, visit their website or save the numbers as a contact on your phone. So next time before you are about to enter a new place to drink or dline, do a quick search on your phone and be better prepared for a good time.
