LG Optimus 2X

-----------------------

Straight out of the box, the LG Optimus looks just like any other smartphone out there. The 4.0-inch Gorilla Glass screen has four touch-based keys placed below it: menu, home, return and search. This one comes with Android 2.2 with a promised update for Android 2.3 soon. LG has made the UI look snazzier than before. The widgets look more in line of HTC Sense, which is kind of benchmark as far as Android UI’s are concerned.

At the heart of the phone is the ARM Cortex A9 dual-core processor, clocking at 1GHz. Switch on the 2X, and it’s the quick boot speed that is the biggest indicator of a powerful phone. Th interface loads quite quickly, and the phone is actually usable without any lags.

Under standard usage scenarios, the Optimus 2X feels just as powerful as any single core 1GHz phone. However, get down to gaming and you’ll feel the real difference. The load times are much less; the gameplay is smoother and feels a lot livelier. Download Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD from the Android Market to get a first-hand experience of the dual-core power.

The camera performance is indeed very good. The 8MP snapper is capable of taking some really lively pictures, even in environments that are only moderately lit.

The brightness level of the display is excellent. Usually with bright displays, colours go for a toss.
Its battery lasted two days with a mixture of usage scenarios – few calls, lots of IMs, some SMSes and a bit of web browsing.

It’s surprising that the Optimus 2X feels like any other Android smartphone powered by a 1GHz single core processor; at least as far as basic usage patterns are considered. However, walk it down the gaming path, and that’s when you’ll notice that extra power. And that’s what makes the real difference.
