Facebook Chat:
Pidgin supports multiple IM services including Google Talk, MSN, Yahoo and even slightly obscure ones as MXit and QQ, but it surprisingly leaves Facebook out of the default set. To fix this simply go to tinyurl.com/pdgn-fb. On the right-hand side navigation menu, you will find a *.deb package and *.exe package for Linux and Windows users, respectively for a straight forward install. Once installed, Facebook will show as an additional service when adding an account.
Audio/Video Chat:
Pidgin has added support for both Audio and Video. Just go to the 'Media' option for the buddy you want to initiate a chat with and select only 'Audio' or 'Audio" and 'Video'. To further customise, you can enable the 'Voice/Video Settings' plugin from the Tools > Plugins dialog box and click on the 'Configure Button' to adjust your webcam and audio settings.
