Looks can be deceiving
The GT663R is heavy, weighting in at 3.5 kg. An Intel Core i7 740QM processor (1.73 GHz), a whopping 8 GB of memory and NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX460M with 1.5 GB of graphics memory make this laptop a force to be reckoned with. It also sports 2 X 500 GB hard drives, and has a 15.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768. A full HD resolution screen of 1920 x 1080 would have been ideal to match the superb configuration. You can’t really compute with this device on your lap, lest you singe your thighs.
The dedicated control options are well laid out – there are controls to start and stop the internal cooling fans, as well as controls for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Turbo mode and Eco mode. You’ll have to use keyboard shortcuts to control volume and screen brightness though.
The MSI GT663R performs well, and looks good to boot, but it’s not a laptop that feels as good as its price tag – the build quality is rough around the edges, and lacks finesse.
