Text replacement:
You can enable this by going to Tools > Plugins > Text replacements. Not only does it automatically correct for mistakes/shorthands such as wroking to working, or any1 to anyone, you can also add your own entries by clicking on Configure Plugin. You can reduce your keystrokes by assigning shortcuts/acronyms for your commonly used phrases.

Turn off notifications:
With typically 200+ people on your buddy list a loud bell alert for every time whenever someone logs in or out can be annoying. To set this right, go to Tools > Preferences > Sounds and either reduce the notification volume to a bare minimum, or untick everythings from the "Sound Events" section. If you fancy the notifications, but want a different tone, you can set that as well.
Buddy Pounces:
This is a unique and incredibly useful feature of pidgin. Buddy pounces are actions (Like sending them a message, playing a specific sound, or even executing a command) whenever a certain friend in any of your protocols changes his status (say comes noline, goes offline, becomes idle). You can set them by going to Tools > Buddy Pounces.
One of the most comon actions is to send a message whenever your buddy comes online, very useful in protocols which don't support offline messaging.
