Another Liquid that doesn't quite flow right
The build quality of the Acer Liquid Metal is very good, and the combination of plastic and stainless steel works well to give it a classy look.
The Android 2.2 OS is skinned with Acer’s custom Breeze UI. The phone is powered by an 800MHz Scorpion processor, which runs out of power if multiple apps are opened. The on-screen keyboard is a bit of a pain to use in portrait mode.
The call quality is quite good, and the earpiece does well when it comes to audio volume and clarity. Even in a noisy environment, there was no problem hearing what the person on the other end of the line was saying.
Dolby Mobile sound enhances the audio quality, but is more enjoyable on a good set of headphone instead of speaker. The 5MP camera does a pretty good job recording videos at 720p HD resolutions, with no motion blur or jerky frames. Pretty good for a camera phone, we must say.
Battery life has never been Android’s strong point, but the Liquid Metal lasts over a day under normal usage conditions.
The Liquid Metal will appeal to those who want some fashion and like the Breeze UI. More discerning buyers will find better options in the same price bracke. The Galaxy S (S-LCD version) and the HTC Desire may be older phones, but they’ll give the Liquid Metal a run for its money. Other smartphones in the same price range that are outside the Android ecosystem that you could consider are Samsung Wave-II and the Nokia C7.
