Since now Google Talk among a few others support Offline Messaging, a simple trick to ease that process from within Pidgin is to go to Buddies > Show > Offline Buddies and check it, followed by Buddies > Sort Buddies > By Status.

If you want the song you're listining on your computer to appear as your status message, you can install this plugin from http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-musictracker/.
There is an executable package for Windows user available and source file for Linux users, but Linux users are advised repository listing for an entry.
It supports a large number of music players including Winamp, Windows media player, Last.fm feed, Amarok, Banshee, Rhythmbox among many others so you can listen to music from the pkayer of your choice without installing a separate add-on in each player.
