Isolate for easier work flow:
One of the handy methods for a faster and easier work flow is to isolate objects and work on that bit and move to the next one. To do this, select the object, click the Isolate Select icon at the top of the viewport. The Isolate Select icon is a little select arrow with a green dotted line square that it's clicking.
Right above the viewport, it's the icon between the little gold ball and the grey 3Dbox with white lines Click this icon again to see everything else in the scene. Isolating objects this way will not make them invisible when you render. To do that, you will need to hide them in the Outliners.
More finite control over Scrubbing:
If numbers or values changes too fast while you're trying to modify them by scrubbing (dragging your mouse pointer over the timeline), hold [J] to make the tool work in a finer mode.
