A decent offering for a specific type of user
The Wave 525 is a budget offering from Samsung’s line of phones running the bada operating system. The phone is all plastic, but surprisingly manages to looks sleek and can easily masquerade as a mid range smart phone, rather than the entry level smart phone that it is. The build is sturdy, the screen is vibrant and the touch response is quite good. Call reception and voice quality is exceptional on the earpiece. Camera quality is at par with other 3.2 MP phone cameras out there, while the on-phone photo editing features are something to rave about. But apart from these positives, in each and every aspect of the phone there is something or the other lacking. “Almost... But not quite there yet”, will be a recurring complaint in your mind. Bada OS offers almost every feature you can think of – multitasking, an app store, multiple home screens, widgets and more. But are they any good or just on paper? Lets look at the pre-installed apps – for the most part they do what they’re supposed to but there’s hardly any refinement; everything’s clunky. What about the app store? Not exactly empty, but finding good apps is a task in itself. The phone multitasks, sure, but turn on Wi-Fi, run a few process intensive apps and stuff begins to lag a little – at times even typing. The Dolfin browser loads full websites and features multiple windows browsing, but won’t reflow screen size or zoom level. Lots of minor irritants everywhere. Overall this is a phone for those who like to (more or less) use their phones with whatever it comes with, rather than delving into the world of customization. If you are that sort of a user it’s not a bad deal for Rs 8,500 approx.
