The RC510 is blessed with a shiny new power plant – the Intel Core i3 380M, a dual core with HT support. With NVIDIA Optimus, the RC510 can switch between Intel HD graphics and its dedicated GeForce 315M GPU. This isn’t a potent gaming system by any stretch, and will strictly play older games sans framing. It barely managed 24.17 fps in Far Cry 2 at medium setting and a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. A GT540M manages over 60 fps at the same settings. The storage system consists of a 500GB HDD, and not a fast one at that. With just 20 and 25MB/s in the non-sequential and sequential transfers respectively. Playback of 1080p content is seamless, and the display while plagued with poor viewing angles has a nice saturated look that gives colour in videos a little more “pop”.
From the perspective of someone looking at
a desktop replacement, the RC510 performs reasonably well and will easily run
more mundane applications, but it is not a performance machine, nor would be
expect it to be at a price of Rs 39,990. For anyone looking at something to
browse on, do a lot of office work as well as play the odd game, the RC510 will
deliver.
