The term customer service means different things to different people, but in general people expect to be spoken to politely and clearly, to have their issues responded to quickly and respectfully and to get what they're paying for. They also have the rights to have things explained to them and to not have surprises waiting. The three major carriers, Verizon, AT&T and Sprint have similar phones at similar prices and similar service. The vast majority of people who have questions about their phone or their account deal with their concerns by calling a toll-free number and speaking to a Customer Service Representative. Employees are the people who can make or make a company, and their service will often determine how you feel about that company.

Verizon

Verizon wireless service has customer service available by phone, email and postal service mail. Prepaid service customers have the option of speaking to an associate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and postpaid customers need to call between 6 AM and 11 PM any day of the week. As with most customer service situations, there will be customers who love their service and others who have nothing nice to say about it. However, in 2010, they were the first wireless company to receive the BBB's International Torch Award for Marketplace Excellence. Obviously, the BBB wouldn't have given an award of that caliber to a company that was known to provide poor customer service..

AT&T

What is there to say about AT&T? They certainly did play around with their name for a few years, when they were AT&T, then Cingular, then the new AT&T, but all throughout they seemed to provide good customer service. Their website is geared towards video chatting with representatives and their actual telephone number and hours of operation for a call center employee seem hard to find. The reviews seem mixed, but there will always be mixed reviews on major companies. Although it is difficult to be certain, there do seem to be many complaints about dropped calls and incorrect billing.

Sprint

Sprint makes all of their contact information readily available on their website, but don't list their hours of operation. They also are well-known for their data network and affordable pricing. They have historically been willing to work with credit-challenged people more than other major carriers. With that being said, many people have complained about the dead spots in less populated spots in the US. It's been an ongoing problem for years with no huge changes yet. Many people feel that if they were really listening to their customers, they would have addressed that significant issue.

Choosing one clear winner would be impossible, but it's significant to remember that Verizon won an award and allows multiples ways to communicate with them. Before establishing or transferring service, always make sure that you have adequate service at work and home, and see how long you have to change your mind about your new service if things are not ideal.
