Nothing new with the Aspire One 722's design, it resonates with past Acer notebooks - the edges are tapering and the finish is mostly glossy plastic. But there's a new ripple wave pattern on its screen lid which is one of its kind - definitely earns it extra style points. The whole unit is as slim as any contemporary netback, weights 1.4-kg with a 6-cell battery, and is extremely travel-friendly.
The netbook's slightly larger form factor works in its favor, compared to slightly-cramped 10-inch netbooks. The AO722's keyboard has flat, full-sized keys for typing and its glossy widescreen packs in as many pixels as a standard 15-inch laptop. The thin laptop's multigesture touchpad is good, but its single-strip mouse button isn't the best. Overall performance is slightly better than an Atom netback, and the onboard AMD Radeon HD 6250 makes sure graphics performance remains unmatched. HD 720p videos play smoothly, multitasking with up to 3-4 apps is underwhelming and battery lasts for a 4 hours.
AMD finally has a worthy competitor to Intel's Atom chipset, and with Acer pricing the Aspire One 722 at an attractively low price, notebooks may well recapture popular imagination.
